The Anabaptist Network, the Mennonite Trust and Bristol Baptist College announce the launch of a new Centre for Anabaptist Studies, based at the College in Bristol.

Why?

The realities of post-Christendom require Christians in western culture to reimagine faith, discipleship, church and mission from the perspective of a minority community. Christians from many traditions are looking to the Anabaptist tradition for insights and resources.

Through the witness of the Anabaptist Network and the Mennonite Trust over recent decades, the Anabaptist vision has become more visible in Britain. The ‘After Christendom’ series has offered Anabaptist perspectives on a wide range of issues.

But there are currently very limited opportunities or resources within theological colleges, or elsewhere, for those who want to study Anabaptist history and theology. This is a gap that the Centre for Anabaptist Studies is intended to fill.

What?

The Centre for Anabaptist Studies and its partners will offer the following:

* A series of webinars - six each year in partnership with the Anabaptist Network
* A specialist library - donated and maintained by the Mennonite Trust
* A taught MA in Theology, Ministry and Mission with an Anabaptist emphasis - offered by Trinity College Bristol with Bristol Baptist College and validated by the University of Durham
* Annual public lectures
* Supervision of research students
* Opportunities for sabbatical study

When?

The inaugural lecture, ‘Anabaptists, the Bible and Violence’, will be delivered by Professor Tom Yoder Neufeld on Wednesday 8 October at Bristol Baptist College.

The Centre hopes to offer one of the new MA modules in 2015 (probably 23-27 March).

You can download a brochure about the Centre below.

Who?

The Centre will be directed by Stuart Murray Williams, with support from a number of honorary research fellows, including Lloyd Pietersen and Linda Wilson.

For further information or to enquire about study opportunities, please contact Stuart Murray Williams: stuart@murraywilliams.co.uk.
